READ MORE: House GOP’s top 2022 priority is stopping COVID-19 vaccine mandates "The potential costs to businesses are very likely to justify any refusal to grant an exemption." "So I can clearly see many employers now saying, 'you know, I can't grant this exemption because it will cost too much if we have to be quarantining, if it causes us to have to close down or it causes people to have to wear PPE,'" Oliveri said. Undue hardship is typically measured in terms of cost, so if a company can prove an exemption significantly affects their bottom line, it can get thrown out.Īnother reason? The EEOC says religious accommodations can be refused if they get in the way of workplace safety. "And it must not create undue hardship on the conduct of the employer's business. "First of all, the accommodation must be reasonable," she said. Rigel Oliveri, law professor at the University of Missouri, said there are still plenty of other reasons employers could refuse religious exemptions for vaccines. But that can be hard to prove and risky: if not handled the right way, the EEOC could impose stiff penalties. But it can ask workers some questions.Īfterward, if they think an employee’s religious belief isn’t sincere, it could refuse accommodation. He estimates he’s helped thousands of people craft letters requesting religious vaccine exemptions, supported by scripture from the Bible.īut how’s an employer supposed to handle those requests, even if it suspects a worker's religious belief isn't sincere? The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says, when it comes to vaccines and religion, a company’s default policy should be to grant them. So Beckwith helps them frame those beliefs as faith. "These people are great people, they just tend to say, Hey, I just have a little bit of hesitancy here and I don't think it's right that I'm being forced to take this.” But they do deeply believe the vaccine isn’t right for them. "'And then I heard about you.'"īeckwith said many of them can’t necessarily articulate their resistance to vaccination in terms of faith. "I'll spend an hour on the phone, every other day it seems like, with people who are just bawling, they're crying, they're just saying, 'I don't know what to do. Earlier this year, he started getting messages from people looking for a way out of the COVID-19 vaccine when their work started voluntarily requiring it. Micah Beckwith is a pastor in Noblesville and outspoken in conservative political circles. And for some of their employees, religious exemptions look like the easiest way to avoid the mandate – even if it's not necessarily a tenet of their religion.Ī complicated mix of federal rules and newly proposed state laws leave many companies wondering how to keep workers safe while honoring religious rights. Listen to the broadcast version of this story.Ĭompanies across Indiana have voluntarily required worker vaccinations for months. I prefer teaching the modern manuscript over the traditional manuscript transitions well to cursive manuscript later on. I had training on how to teach modern manuscript handwriting when I taught kindergarten for Plano ISD in Texas. Traditional Manuscript versus Modern Manuscript: First thing to do is decide whether you want to teach your child the traditional manuscript or the modern manuscript. When my students struggle holding the pencil to form the lines and curves to form letters, writing will be a frustration. Handwriting is a neglected skill in the American school system due to the increasing demand of technology integration but it has always been an important skill for me to teach my children and students. Ultimately, the decision to learn cursive should consider personal interests, cultural context, and practical requirements.Introduction: This post link is where I will be posting all my English and Vietnamese alphabet books and handwriting sheets I created for my students and children. While cursive writing remains valuable in certain contexts, its significance has diminished in others due to the digital age. It's important to note that the benefits of learning cursive may vary depending on individual preferences and needs. Respect for Legacy Documents: When dealing with historical documents or archives, the ability to write in cursive can help maintain respect for the original script and improve accuracy when transcribing or working with such materials. Preservation of Tradition: Learning and teaching cursive helps preserve a traditional form of communication that is still appreciated and valued by many. Developing your own style of cursive handwriting can be a creative outlet. Personal Touch: When writing personal letters or notes, cursive can add a personal and aesthetically pleasing touch to your correspondence.Īrtistic Expression: For some people, cursive writing can be seen as a form of artistic expression. Signature Development: Cursive is often used for signatures, and having an attractive and unique signature can be valuable in personal and professional contexts.Įnhanced Brain Activation: Some studies suggest that learning and practicing cursive writing can stimulate more parts of the brain compared to typing, potentially enhancing cognitive development. It broadens your ability to access and understand a wider range of written materials. Improved Reading Skills: Being able to read cursive can be useful for deciphering historical documents, handwritten letters, and older texts. Practicing cursive can help improve dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and overall handwriting legibility.įaster Writing: Once proficient, writing in cursive can be faster than printing, which can be advantageous for taking notes or completing assignments, especially in situations where speed is necessary. Learning cursive can help individuals connect with their own culture's history and appreciate the development of written language.Įnhanced Motor Skills: Writing in cursive requires a different set of fine motor skills compared to printing or typing. Historical and Cultural Connection: Cursive script has been used for centuries and is a part of the cultural and historical heritage of many societies. Learning to read and write in cursive script, while not as essential as it once was due to the prevalence of digital communication, still offers several benefits. As a result, the child’s body is unable to fight off infections and can become very sick from infections like chickenpox, pneumonia and meningitis and can die within the first year of life. The choice between HSCT or gene therapy will depend on whether there are well-matched donors available for transplant and will be discussed at length between the parents and the transplant and gene therapy teams.Severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) is a group of rare, life-threatening diseases that cause a child to be born with very little or no immune system. The differences between these different gene therapy options will be discussed with the families in detail. It can be used until a more definitive therapy is available, such as haematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) or gene therapy.Ĭlinical trials of gene therapy for ADA deficiency are ongoing in Europe and the USA, with Great Ormond Street Hospital being one of the centres where this treatment is available.Ī related, commercial gene therapy treatment called Strimvelis has been recently approved by NICE and is available to families as an alternative treatment in Milan. PEG-ADA treatment corrects the ADA and adenosine levels in the blood, and usually leads to gradual improvement and partial correction of immune function. It is given as a weekly injection into a muscle, for instance, the thigh muscle. This is often referred to as enzyme replacement therapy. However, in contrast to other forms of SCID, it is possible to replace the missing enzyme using a medication known as PEG-ADA. The first stages of treatment and precautions are the same as in all forms of SCID. The need for other investigations will depend on whether other systems of the body are involved. A psychologist will also carry out a developmental assessment. If ADA deficiency is confirmed, it is important to assess hearing as early as possible because of the high risk of deafness. Additionally, the levels of adenosine can be measured and will be much higher than normal. The level of ADA enzyme activity in the blood can be measured and is usually less than one per cent of the normal levels seen in healthy children. Doctors refer to this pattern of SCID as ‘T -, B -, NK – SCID’, and this is highly suggestive of a diagnosis of ADA-SCID. Breathing difficulties can also occur in infants with ADA-SCID without any detectable infection.īlood count testing shows a very low lymphocyte count, and basic immunology tests show very low or absent levels of T, B and NK lymphocytes. Infants with typical early onset ADA-SCID have poor growth and frequent, severe and unusual infections, such as pneumonia with an organism called Pneumocystis jirovecii (a yeast-like fungus) that does not usually cause illness in healthy individuals. There may also be problems with other body systems, including the kidneys, liver and lungs. In some cases there may be a low level of working ADA enzyme, leading to a less severe ‘delayed’ onset of combined immune deficiency (CID) – please refer to our separate information on CID. However, the ADA gene is important in all cells of the body, and therefore patients with ADA-SCID often also have symptoms and signs outside the immune system. White blood cells (especially lymphocytes, and more specifically T cells, B cells and natural killer (NK) cells) that are important for a healthy immune system are very sensitive to these toxic effects and fail to develop normally, leading to SCID. This prevents cells from dividing effectively. Lack of the ADA enzyme causes a build-up of a toxic substance called deoxyadenosine. Enzymes are protein substances that help speed up chemical reactions in the body. ĪDA-SCID is caused by mistakes (mutations) in the ADA gene, which result in absent or very low levels of the enzyme ADA. More information about autosomal recessive inheritance can be found in our leaflet ‘ Genetic aspects of primary immunodeficiency ’. There may be a family history of previously affected children, particularly if there are first or second-cousin marriages or partnerships in the family. This means that a child has to inherit the faulty gene from both parents to have the condition. It is inherited as an autosomal recessive condition. ADA-SCID is a specific form of severe combined immunodeficiency ( SCID). The difference is that they use an elliptical-shaped reflector instead of a parabolic-shaped one. Reflector: Like classic reflector headlights, projector headlights actually include a component called a reflector that reflects the light source to the front. Due to the design of the Shutter in the projector headlight, the bulb in a projection headlight needs to be much brighter than the bulb in a reflector headlight. And projector headlights can use halogen, HID, and LED bulbs as the light source. Light Source: Every projector needs a light source. This picture will show you how the projector headlight work.Įvery projector headlight includes these basic components: It is designed to project brighter beams of light on the road without blinding anyone. How do they all work together to create that beam pattern? Projector Headlight Working Principleĭiffering from that of traditional reflector headlights, the design of the projector's headlight is based on the idea of focusing light with a specially-shaped reflector, then using a shutter to project it on the road with a beam pattern that is evenly distributed and tightly organized. All the components in the projector are designed to focus the bright light in a pattern of evenly distributed and tightly organized beams. Thanks to this crisp and clear cut-off line, you can have incredibly bright headlights without blinding other drivers in front of you. A cut-off shield can help direct light down toward the road, giving a very sharp cutoff to the light output from the projector. Otherwise, like a reflector headlight, the light output would fade away from the center.īut when used as a low beam, does such a high brightness from projector headlights blind the oncoming traffic? The key to their effectiveness is in the special shutter/cut-off shield design of the projector's headlights. And there is an even display of light across the light beam, which will appear as if your light doesn’t fade as the beam reaches the left and right edges, increasing visibility left, right and forward. T his lens, known as a condenser lens, project a focused beam of light that can increase brightness and illuminate more road surface at greater distances than typical reflector headlights. Projector HeadlightsĬompared to typical reflector headlamps, projector headlights have an added lens that works as a magnifying glass to increase the light beam’s brightness. the headlight illumination will fade in brightness as they taper away from the center. This provides a less distinct light source that isn’t consistent across the entire width of the light output, i.e. Think of those reflectors as like a mirror, the halogen bulb is Illuminating bouncing off those mirrors and then aligning onto the wall to give you that beam pattern.īut the main cons of a reflector headlight are that the beam cannot be controlled. The reflector is these fluted lines inside the headlight assembly that you can see the lines go up and down and then they work their way out. Next, you will understand the difference between reflector headlights and projector headlights and understand why more and more people prefer projector headlights.īefore the introduction of projector headlights, reflector headlights have been used in automobiles. The transmission used on early build 390 V8 equipped T-Birds was the Cruise-O-Matic MX, however late build 390 and all 428 V8 equipped T-Birds had the new C6 3 speed automatic installed.Ī black 1964 Thunderbird convertible had a notable role in the TV series Highlander: The Series as protagonist Duncan Macleod’s main mode of transportation. It became by far the best-selling model, accounting for 35,105 units of the 1966 model year's 69,176 units sold. The Landau trim package added to the Town Sedan a padded roof and landau S-bars. The rear taillights were revised, now a 3 piece unit going the full width across the rear, the backup light now located in the center section replaced the formerly rear roll pan mounted lamps.Ī new Town Sedan model was offered, which featured a roof with blind quarter panels for a more 'formal' look, at the cost of rear visibility, and removed the retractable side window for rear passengers which were offered only on the Hardtop Coupe and Convertible. A flatter hood, re-shaped front fenders, new headlight buckets, new egg crate grille with large Thunderbird emblem, new bumper guards, a single bumper bar, and painted roll pan replaced the previous two model year's two-piece front bumper. The larger 428-cubic-inch (7.0 L) V-8 became optional, rated at 345 hp (257 kW) and providing a notable improvement in 0-60 mph acceleration to about 9 seconds. Opening the trunk on convertibles for storage required that the lid be opened electrically, without deploying or retracting the folding convertible top.įor 1966, the 390-cubic-inch V8's power was increased to 315 hp (235 kW). The mechanism was originally used on the Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner hardtop convertible of the late 1950s. Again, the Cruise-O-Matic MX automatic was the only transmission available.Ĭonvertibles borrowed the opening mechanism from the all-new Lincoln Continental where the trunklid would open electrically in a single piece, hinged at the back of the vehicle, then the fabric top would fold down and disappear beneath the trunklid. Sales, impacted by increasing competition, including cannibalism by Ford's own newly introduced, and more affordable Mustang, dipped to 74,972. The popular "Tilt-Away" steering column continued, and was a Thunderbird recognized feature that was later shared on other upper-level Ford Products. Exterior trim was revised, including a new grille, Thunderbird emblem replacing the block letters on the front edge of the hood, simulated front fender vent trim, revised Thunderbird scripts now located on the rear edge of the quarter panels, and revised taillight lens trim and a single center emblem replacing the dual lens birds and block letters respectively. Several features intended for the new generation were delayed until 1965, when front disc brakes became standard equipment and sequential turn signals which flashed three bulbs in the broad, horizontal tail lights from inside to outside were added the latter had been delayed by vehicle lighting regulations in the United States. The listed retail price for the 1964 two-door hardtop coupe was US$4,486 ($42,328 in 2022 dollars ), 1965 model year saw the debut of sequential turn signals The only transmission available was the Cruise-O-Matic MX 3 speed automatic. The 1964 Thunderbird was the only model of this generation to have the word 'Thunderbird' spelled out on the front hood instead of a chrome Thunderbird emblem. Total 1964 sales were excellent at 92,465 units, up nearly fifty per cent from the previous year, but the popularity of the Sports Roadster continued to decline, with only 50 Sports Roadster sold from the factory. The revised model was initially offered as a hardtop, convertible, Sports Roadster with dealer-installed tonneau cover and wire wheels, and Landau with vinyl roof, simulated landau irons, and wood grain interior appointments. Models 1964 Thunderbird Hardtop Coupe 1965 Ford Thunderbird Hardtop 1966 Town Landau Contemporary testers felt that the Buick Riviera, Pontiac Grand Prix and Chrysler 300K were substantially more roadworthy cars, but the Thunderbird retained its leading market share. The softly sprung suspension allowed considerable body lean, wallow, and float on curves and bumps. The only remnant of the Thunderbird's former sporty image was that the standard 390-cubic-inch 300 hp (224 kW) V8 engine needed nearly 11 seconds to push the heavy T-bird to 60 mph (97 km/h). This generation of the Thunderbird was restyled in favor of a more squared-off, "formal" look. The fourth generation Ford Thunderbird is a large personal luxury car produced by Ford for the 1964 to 1966 model years. This last chart for tonight is the, HISTORY CHART FOR THE END OF THE WORLD, which shows all the important lows that felt like the end of the world if you were trading when these events happened. Inflation / deflation chart with the GDX on the bottom.Īll the chart patterns made during the 2000 to 2011 bull market. Just like any chart pattern it can form on any timeframe.Ĭan the current price action trade back above the top rail to complete the third bullish expanding falling wedge?ĪAPL history chart: You know the pattern is valid when you see the backtest form where it is supposed to. When you look at the following charts think how much fun you would have if you had bought the very bottom of the bullish expanding falling wedge and had the courage to ride the move to completion. Normally I will buy the breakout and backtest of a chart pattern unless I see a reversal pattern forming on an important trendline, then I’ll try to buy the bottom which is tougher to do. The charts to follow are pretty self explanatory, but you will see with your own two eyes why I like this pattern so much. In a bull market the bullish expanding falling wedge and the bullish rising wedge are my two favorite chart pattens. I’ve been showing many bullish expanding falling wedges since the very first day we opened up our door back in 2011. When you look at the first chart, the daily line combo chart above, note where the small H&S and double bottoms show up on this chart below. If one can spot the last reversal point in the expanding falling wedge they will be richly rewarded while the sellers will be greatly disappointed for selling their shares in a panic. The last point I would like to make about the potential bullish expanding falling wedge is that this is one of the hardest patterns to spot in real time as I described in the 2nd paragraph of this Weekend Report. If we see that happen then we’ll know the big H&S consolidation pattern will also give way. It is very important to keep in mind that this potential bullish pattern won’t be complete until the top rail is broken to the upside. When the price action started to trade below the right shoulder neckline symmetry line I began to lose hope that the potential massive H&S consolation patterns were failing.Īs you can see that just about every PM stock indexes is showing the blue expanding falling wedge. Its been several months since I last showed you the monthly combo chart for the PM complex which shows the potential massive H&S consolidation patterns. I’ve been showing you for a month or so where we may look for important support to come into play which is where the bottom rail of the 2016 rising wedge and the bottom rail of the blue expanding falling wedge intersect around the 200 area which so far has been holding support. There are two rather large consolidation patterns that make up the internal structure of the potential 2016 rising wedge formation, the 2016 bullish falling wedge and the possible 2020 expanding falling wedge. We’ve been following this next long term weekly chart for the HUI which shows the 2016 trading range which is still under construction. The SLV has a small double bottom reversal pattern. The reason I want to start with this chart is to make you aware of where those small H&S and double bottoms are in the bigger picture.Īs you can see the GDXJ, GLD, SIL and the GOEX have a small H&S reversal pattern forming after the steep decline from the double top. I would like to start with the daily line chart for the PM complex we’ve been following on a daily basis which now shows some small reversal patterns like the H&S and double bottoms. Once that happens there are no sellers left and the move reverses direction leaving those that sold into the decline sitting on the sidelines. The reason this pattern is so bullish is because it is made up of lower highs and lower lows with the last low being extreme, catching all the sell/stops and scaring investors out of their positions. My experience with this pattern is that it often leads to a big move. This is a bullish pattern that few if any chartists actually look for. I’ve been mentioning lately that I thought that many areas in the PM complex could be building out a potential bullish expanding falling wedge. |
